Added SUGAR

One of my goals has been to create the perfect desserts using little to no added cane sugar and/or sugar alternatives that adversely affect blood pressure and insulin levels or, over time cause insulin resistance.   Many sugar substitutes are marketed as better alternatives to cane sugar and said to be low on the glycemic index but what many people don't know is that some of those sugar alternatives are high in fructose which, in the long run can cause serious health problems.

Desserts are loved because they are sweet and savory.  Those characteristics that we crave don't have to come at a high price.  What I have tried to do is working, as often as possible I use ripened and roasted fruits, or a fruit reduction, in place of cane sugar or popular sugar alternatives such as honey and agave nectar.  The "no added sugar" dessert recipes I have been able to master, take on a subtle sweetness.

I have always been conscientious of my sugar intake and as a family we always try to make and encourage healthy food choices and good nutrition.  I am happy to be able to offer desserts to those that have adopted a healthy life style and for those that avoid added sugar for medical reasons.

If there is a dessert you love and would like to try using health sugars in place of sugars that could be very harmful just ask, I will be here!

Recently we taught our Vizsla to close the door behind her when she lets herself into the house. She taught herself how to open the door a few months back.

The key to getting her to close the door behind her was to entice her with, none other than, food.

It took a little repetition, but she learned to close the door behind her in just one evening...for the right homemade treat.

In this case, tasty liver bites.
